Being a woman, making lifelong friendships, playing dress-up and in the words of my dear friend, Kena, being a warrior! This group of women has experienced laughs, love, loss of life, celebrating new life, challenges, and victories. They’ve been there for one another through thick and thin. They accept one another on multiple levels always with open arms.
Each year I get the opportunity to work with my dear friend Kena, on a creative editorial shoot. This normally involves an imaginative idea from her involving costume, hair, and makeup blended with my creative concepts and photography eye to add the final touch. This year she is celebrating the last sparkle of her thirties and she wanted to hop over the age-line with a bang. She invited a selection of her closest girlfriends whom she considers her nearest and dearest sisterhood support group and as needed, sisters in arms.
Enjoy some highlights from this shoot!
Kena has such a way with words, I wanted to put her voice to this post about her friendships:
Time. Being Woman slovenska-lekaren.com. Remaining Warrior. And of course dress-up.
This year I celebrate the last year of my 30’s, so it’s all about ‘time’ for me this year. I’ve spent the last 7 months reflecting back on my thirties and what a gift these years have been. Full of new life, incredible challenges, some really hard losses, some major victories, and overflowing love and laughter. One crucial constant for me has been my tribe of crazy, fierce, loyal, and gorgeous women friends. Women who have cried with me, seen me broken but continued to remind me of my worth, women whose laughter feels my spirit, women who say yes to skinny dipping at midnight in the October freezing Pacific ocean, women who appreciate a cup of hot chai, women who are daring, brave, and willing to grow. Women who are for other women, and women who celebrate victories just as much as they mourn with you in the desert. These women are in their 20’s, 30’s, and 40’s… and of course the newest of lives with 6-week-old baby Daisy. It’s all just time, and time is a beautiful thing.
So, to celebrate time, and to honor women who are for women, I decided to gather my tribe and play dress-up. This celebration represents a victory for each of us in so many vast and different ways. We each are so unique in our lives, our struggles, our gifts and talents, our dreams, our heartbreaks, and even our ages. A colorful garment of individual threads, neatly woven together to create a strong and beautiful picture.
I love these women and I cannot begin to express the beauty they add to my life. This is my treasure chest!
Thank you, ladies, for your YES to this day and this celebration of time.
